International World Heritage Expert Meeting on the Recommendation on Historic Urban Landscape
Following Decision 36 COM 13.II of the World Heritage Committee (St
Petersburg, 2012) and within the wider framework of the Revisions to the
Operational Guidelines, the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute
(IPHAN), Ministry of Culture of Brazil, will host the International Expert
Meeting on the mainstreaming of the methodological approach related to the
Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape in the Operational Guidelines.
The meeting will be held in Rio de Janeiro, from 3 to 5 September 2013, with
the support of the UNESCO Category 2 Regional Heritage Management Training
Centre "Lucio Costa”.
The meeting’s main objectives are to identify ways to integrate the
methodology and approach carried by the Recommendation on the Historic Urban
Landscape in the Operational Guidelines and to review related texts. The
meeting will also contribute to a better understanding of the Recommendation as
a UNESCO normative instrument and tool towards a better integration of cultural
heritage preservation in development policies. The meeting’s outcomes will be
presented to the World Heritage Committee at its 38th session in June 2014.
