Reb. Giersch Eichenstein passed away in the town of Zhydachiv (Zydaczow) on 22 June 1831. The Ohel was erected in 1832. Among many of his accomplishments, Reb. Giersch is known for being the author of Aterez Tzvi, a commentary to the Zohar by Simeon bar Yochai (Rabbi Shimon), a foundational work in the Jewish mystical literature.
